6 Evergreen Privacy Trees for Texas Backyards
- , Plants
One of the best ways to add privacy and elegance to a Texas backyard is to add trees. Most every backyard landscape has some sort of privacy shrub or tree featured. Choosing the right tree is sometimes difficult without some guidance. You don’t want to plant trees that are too large or too small for the space or ones that don’t adhere to the flow of the backyard. Most Texas subdivision homes are built close together, lacking privacy. Fortunately, there are many trees that offer a substantial amount of privacy from neighboring homes while adding style to your landscape. Here, we have put together a list of six evergreen privacy trees that are suitable for Texas backyards.
Eagleston Holly
This holly-shaped evergreen tree is a wonderful option for backyard privacy while offering beauty to the landscape. It is generally considered low-maintenance and easy to take care of. The holly has dense foliage and bright red berries that emerge in the fall and winter, adding a unique look. As for size, it is decently large, growing to be around 14 feet wide and 20 feet tall. They are adaptable to numerous soil types and require normal watering once established. The Eagleston Holly is an excellent tree choice to plant next to a swimming pool.
Juniper Taylor
The Juniper Taylor is a wonderful low-maintenance addition to any Texas backyard landscape. It grows to be around 3–4 feet in width and 15–20 feet in height. It is an evergreen tree with foliage that lasts all year, even though it doesn’t bloom. As for maintenance, it thrives in full sun and needs only normal watering. Lastly, the Juniper Taylor is very resilient and can tolerate dry and rocky soil and even droughts.

The Southern Wax Myrtle, referred to as a common “wax myrtle,” is a broadleaf evergreen. It blooms from February to March in yellow-green flowers. It thrives in full sun to partial shade with minimal watering. As for size, the wax myrtle can grow to be 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide. Its fragrant flowers and showy fruits attract birds and butterflies.

The Magnolia blooms large flowers during May through July and is considered medium maintenance. It grows best in moist, well-drained, and organically rich soils. As this magnolia grows rapidly, it’s important that it be given the proper room in a landscape so that it doesn’t become too invasive.
